Memories of Richard "P-pa"
|
Dad...Pop...P-pa...Richie You go by many names but LOVED for everything... I WROTE THIS FOR YOUR MEMORIAL SERVICE ON OCTOBER 21, 2006. I've known you for over 17 yrs, I was 15 when I began dating your son, Kevin. You welcomed me into your home and life with open and loving arms. I could turn to you for anything and you never stopped loving me. You were more than a Dad, you were also my friend! Whenever Kevin and I needed you, You were always there. We could count on you for anything and know that you were there for us for Everything! You loved me and treated me as if I were your own daughter. You were Kevin's hero, he looked up to you and admired you beyond words! Before he made any decisions he always went to you to get your input and opinion. No matter what the issues were, Kevin knew that he could go to you and no matter how harsh the outcome he always knew that you he could count on you to be by his side. You were the wind beneath his wings, you were his best friend as well as an amazing father and grandfather. I remember after Destinee was born you told me that you wouldn't hold your grandchildren until they were at least a year old. You held Destinee when she was 9 days old, and after we had Nicholas, you and mom came up to the hospital and held him when he was just hours old and I remember when you held Jazmyn for the first time, she was so tiny in your arms. She spit up on you, what a look of surprise on your face! LOL! I have that one on video! I cherish those memories of you with the 3 grandchildren I was blessed to give you. You lovingly and proudly gazed down upon each of your grandchildren, Anthony, Destinee, Isaiah, Nicholas, Jazmyn, Gianna, and Devin as they nestled close in your arms. I always loved to watch you with your grandkids, your whole face would light up and tears would mist your eyes when they entered the room. It brought me such joy to see you how much happiness they brought you even though they made a lot of noise and drove you crazy, you still wanted them there. You would laugh when Kevin and I shared how Destinee did this, Nick did that, and wow, what a handful Jazmyn was! It was always a tradition to give you kisses when we left to go home, the kids would stand on their tippy toes as you leaned over in your wheelchair and played the kissing game. You and Jazmyn had your own little special kissing game. Jazzy would lean over as I held her and let you nuzzle with her as she giggled in fits of laughter. You loved your grandkids more than anything in the world. You will always hold a special place in our hearts and lives. We love you more than you could even begin to imagine. You were an amazing Father, Husband, Friend, and P-pa! Daddy, I want you to know how much I love you! I'm sorry if I never told you enough but you meant the world to me. I hope you knew that and I hope you know that! You were an amazing man and you were my hero, too. I know that God has taken you home and that your mom and dad have met you at heaven's gates. I can see you walking and talking and your body is made whole. I can feel you all around me and I know that even though you may not be here in body, you are here in spirit. I hold dear to all the wonderful memories that we shared, they are forever etched in my heart and mind. I can only imagine how beautiful heaven must be and how lucky you are to be there!
