Memories of Catherine
I am the second to the oldest of five children. My mother and I got along most of the time. When I was growing up she was always there. She had dinner ready for us as soon as we got off the bus. She did so many things that were special. She would cool our beef stew on a plate so we could eat it sooner. She taught us many things. First, don't complain you are bored or she would assign a house chore to do. Once she told me to practice playing the organ we had in the basement and when I was ready, play her a song. I still remember playing the song and singing "MOON RIVER" to her. One time I wanted she and I to have special time together so I fixed us tea and jello and cookies and we sat at the kitchen table and talked. Our Dad worked away from home so we learned to cut grass and trim hedges and paint etc so we could help keep everything nice for when Dad was home. We were only allowed to ride our bike to the top of the street so Mom could still see us. She was a protective mother. She taught us to respect our elders. She didn't get a job away from the house until I got married. While we were raising our children we started taking Mom to Ocean City, MD on vacations with us. She couldn't swim but she loved being on vacation with us. I was the only child of 5 to move away. She didn't mind because it was to Ocean City area so she came to visit and stay for a week at a time. When she was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) I asked Ed if I could fly Mom to Florida while she was still feeling ok. She wanted to see EPCOT one more time. The picture on her memorial is of her sitting in a wheelchair at Epcot. I miss my Mom. I always will. Even today, I sometimes wish I could pick up the telephone and call her. I have been blessed to call her my Mom. Ed loved his mother-in-law and Brook & Matthew loved their Grandma. We always will.
Survived by:
