A Gift Well Remembered

by Sami .........................................

What comes to mind when you think of a gift? Is it that new pair of socks? Or that new dirtbike?
Those are only material things, but the gift that I mean is a millon
times more special: My mom, Roni DiBlasi. Now, my mom was NEVER one to give up. Even when all odds were against her, she pushed on through every challenge life threw. A strikingly beautiful woman with a great knack for saving lives as a nurse,
every life except her own...here's how we lost her. It all began with breast enhancement, that's when they found a lump, not like the kind on a log, but a devilish lump. My mom was concerned but did not worry. When we finally persuaded her to check the lump, they found it. Breast cancer is that which hurt and takes the lives
of women every day. As the breast cancer spread and continued it's war path inside her entire body, a battle raged on. My mom became sicker and sicker hallucinating and her writing got worse and worse finally she had to have a hospital bed brought to our house. I was a carefree little person not fully understanding all my mom's problemsor even why she was so sick. I woke up on the morning of November 9, 2005 as happy go lucky as I could be I ate breakfast then I neared the hospital bed, seeing my mom red all over fat, and terminally ill, eyes squeezed shut with pain "Bye, mom. I love
you." With as much energy as she could she squeezed my hand and Iknew that ment have a good day and stuff. When I got off the bus that day, I still expected her to be there, before we entered the house grandma told me...she died. I've learned something
valuable from that day, even the greatest of warriors has to fall. But her memory lives on in the sun on my face, the wind in my hair and most of all when I...believe.
